I rode toward Matt’s place steering with my left hand and balancing two boxes of donuts in my right. He answered the door with a friend, who was wearing a Schott Cycles t-shirt. After discovering that I didn’t own a Schott Cycles t-shirt, Matt all but tore the shirt from his friends’ back and handed it to me. Matt was out of medium’s. I wear a medium. His buddy wears a medium. Now I own a Schott Cycles t-shirt.

That day I delivered donuts to Matt (I used to deliver things on a bicycle for money), was one of my first encounters with him and also my introduction to his totally positive and fun energy. Matt’s a great guy to be around; he’s a present conversationalist and his love to create is completely evident. In 2014 Matt joined his experience & joy as a maker with his love for cycling at UBI, where he studied frame building. Since then, Matt has been building bikes here in Houston. Soon, he’ll be moving the outfit to Colorado and I wanted to get a few photos of Matt’s shop before he heads out.

Matt works in steel, building both lugged and fillet brazed frames. Take a look at his projects and reach out if you’re interested in a handmade bicycle from a guy who cares.

Enjoy Colorado, Matt!
